60007 Sir Nigel Gresley positioning movement
A short trip up country, to see Gresley A4 No. 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ make a positioning movement from Crewe to Bishops Lydeard. The Gresley A4s are the fastest steam locomotives in the world, with the world-famous sister loco ‘4468 Mallard’, recording a speed of 126 mph in 1938. In those days, that sort of speed was called incredible, in the preservation era, it would be called a health and safety catastrophe. Sir Nigel Gresley left Crewe at 9:30am and ran on time for most of the day, taking a scenic route to Somerset, passing through Cheshire and Wrexham, Newport, Bristol and Taunton, before eventually arriving at Bishops Lydeard. 60007 is spending the next couple of months at Bishops Lydeard, in between carrying out railtours for Saphos Trains in the South West of England.
