45596 “Bahamas” roars through Devon with the Atlantic Coast Express
45596 “Bahamas” made a short trip to Devon, hauling the legendary Atlantic Coast Express. Once the most popular holiday rail service, the former destinations of the service such as Barnstaple, Bude, and Ilfracombe cease to exist in the present day. Only a glorified summer GWR service from London Paddington to Newquay, runs the prestigious name. Despite this, the West of England line is still around. Starting in Waterloo, the service ran mostly on time all day with no problems breezing through the South of England. The service ran to Exeter St David’s. There is no facility to turn a loco around at Exeter, therefore, the return leg was on the GWR Bristol to Exeter line, before changing to the Heart of Wessex Line from Bristol to Westbury, the to Salisbury and back to London.
